The first of its kind, Eyeshade is the origin story of the sports performance eyewear industry. Created in 1984 using nothing more than a coat hanger, a goggle lens, and some electrical tape, Eyeshade was Oakley’s mad science solution that would change the face of sports as we knew it. The invention’s inspiration came from a struggle shared by many athletes – light leaking into the open spaces on the side of the lenses that would blind any peripheral vision – rendering the sunglasses of that time virtually useless. In true Oakley fashion, the next step was obvious - design the first wrap-around Eyeshade prototype and change the world in the process. As they say, the rest is history. This wrapped style of eyewear became widely adopted by the world’s best athletes, and Oakley’s revolutionary attitude to design and disruption has pushed Eyeshade’s innovative spark to new levels – including this prodigal, modernized return over 40 years after the original release.​
